Family Weekend is packed with events designed to help you connect with your student and experience life as part of the Wildcat family. From signature traditions to campus tours, there’s something for everyone. While we know you won’t be able to attend everything, we encourage you to explore the schedule and pick the events that fit your family’s interests.

Some events are free, while others require registration or tickets. If you have any questions, email us at parents@uky.edu

Registered families will get access to the Family Weekend mobile app in UK Guides in their registration confirmation email - with the full schedule, event details, and helpful tips to make the most of your weekend!

UK Visitor Center Open

8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Gatton Student Center (160 Avenue of Champions)

During Family Weekend, stop by the Visitor Center to get information about campus and Lexington. All are welcome to take a guided tour while visiting campus, but reservations for tours are required. Call 859-257-3595 or visit www.uky.edu/VisitorCenter for a tour schedule and more information.   

Big Blue Day at the Races

11 a.m. - 6 p.m. (post/first race at 1 p.m.), Keeneland (4201 Versailles Road)

Experience a Kentucky tradition during Family Weekend at Keeneland’s Big Blue Day at the Races! Families can enjoy a day at the iconic track with free general admission tickets—available while supplies last through a special link opening in August. More information about how to claim your free ticket is coming soon! Don’t miss this unforgettable blend of Wildcat pride and horse country heritage.

Family Weekend Check-in

1 p.m. - 8 p.m., The Cornerstone (401 S. Limestone Drive)

Before you dive into all the fun, be sure to check in and grab your official Family Weekend tote bag—packed with must-have info, exclusive UK swag, and other fun surprises!

Meet our friendly team, pick up your weekend essentials and any pre-purchased apparel, and get the inside scoop on all the exciting events ahead.

What You'll Need at Check-In:

  • Your Family Weekend confirmation QR code (sent via email)
  • OR the name of the guest who registered your group

Want to hit the ground running when you arrive? Send your student ahead of time to check in your family! They can pick up your welcome tote, grab all the weekend details, and have everything ready for you when you get to campus—so you can jump straight into the fun!

Early Check-in is Wednesday, October 15, through Thursday, October 16, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. in The Cornerstone.

UK students checking in their families must also swipe their BBNvolved Event Pass to check in. Students can access their BBNvolved Event Pass by visiting uky.campuslabs.com/engage/eventpass, logging in with their LinkBlue ID, and saving the QR code to their phone or digital wallet. 

Family Weekend Welcome Reception

Into the Woods presented by UK Department of Theatre and Dance

7:30 p.m., Guignol Theatre (465 Rose Street)

 “Into the Woods” follows a childless baker and his wife, cursed by a witch, as they embark on a quest to find four items to break the spell. Along the way, they encounter iconic characters from the Brothers Grimm — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack, and Rapunzel — all seeking their own fairy tale endings. As wishes are granted, consequences unfold, and the characters must confront the reality of their desires. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine, this Tony Award-winning musical is a timeless, enchanting, and thought-provoking classic.

See the Stars at MacAdam Student Observatory

8 p.m. - 10 p.m., top of the Rose Street Parking Garage (301 Hilltop Avenue)

Take a tour of the $1 million MacAdam Student Observatory. Families will have a chance to gaze at stars and planets through the observatory’s robotic 20” telescope (weather permitting). Images of galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae (taken from the center of a city of 200,000+), along with information about our outreach programs can be found at www.pa.uky.edu/observatory.

Kiddy-Cat Parade

9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Buell Armory (Barker Hall, 408 Administration Drive)

Included in Family Weekend registration fee

The Kiddy-Cat Parade is a fun-filled, short homecoming parade designed for younger siblings of UK students. Kids will create their own parade floats using decorated cardboard boxes, show off their Wildcat spirit, and participate in exciting activities, including an obstacle course and face painting. The event will conclude with a short parade through campus and a celebratory ice cream treat. Presented by the Veterans Resource Center, ROTC, Family Weekend, and UK's Student Parent Organization.

Late Check-in

1 p.m. – 1 hour prior to kick-off, Frazee Hall (406 Administration Drive)

Arriving on Saturday? No problem! We’ve got you covered with Late Check-In so you don’t miss a minute of the fun.

Stop by to pick up your Family Weekend materials, tote bag, and event info. Then you’ll be all set to jump into the action—just in time for game day

Keeneland Fall Race Meet

1 p.m. – 6 p.m., Keeneland (4201 Versailles Road)

Tickets available at keeneland.com

Add a dash of Derby-style excitement to your Family Weekend with a visit to the Keeneland Fall Race Meet—a true Bluegrass tradition just minutes from campus! Enjoy a thrilling day at the races, complete with beautiful horses, scenic views, and that one-of-a-kind Keeneland charm.

Whether you're placing a wager or just soaking up the atmosphere, Keeneland is a can't-miss experience for visitors of all ages. Put on your Big Blue best, bring the family, and enjoy a picture-perfect Lexington day full of pageantry and excitement.

Pro tip: Arrive early for tailgating or a morning visit to The Paddock! Gates open at 11 a.m.

Family Game Day Shuttles

Included in Family Weekend registration fee

Service begins 4 hours before kickoff and continues until 1 hour after the game ends - running approximately every 15 minutes to get you to and from Kroger Field in comfort and style!

Look for the black Gold Shield shuttles at these convenient pick-up/drop-off spots:

  • Scott Street (across from the Taylor Education Building)
  • Wildcat Alumni Plaza (across from Memorial Coliseum)
  • Corner of University Drive & Cooper Drive (next to the UK Alumni Tailgate)

Hop on, cheer loud, and enjoy your game day without the hassle—Go Cats! 

Family Cornhole Competition

3 hours prior to kick-off, Main Lawn (across from the Main Building, 410 Administration Drive)

Ready... Set... Toss! Join us for some friendly fun at the UK Family Weekend Cornhole Competition! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just in it for the laughs, this laid-back tournament is open to all Family Weekend participants — students, families, and guests alike. 

  • No pre-registration needed — sign up on site!
  • Enjoy great music while you play
  • Snack on delicious kettle corn and stay refreshed with complimentary water
  • Compete for fun prizes and serious bragging rights
  • Open practice time available before the games begin 

Grab a partner or come solo and get paired up - either way, it’s a perfect way to relax, connect, and make memories together. See you there! 

UK Alumni Tailgate/Tent Party

3 hours prior to kick-off, Tobacco Lawn (corner of University and Cooper Drive)

Get ready to show your Wildcat pride and soak up the game day energy at the UK Alumni Association's Tailgate Tent Party as the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Texas Longhorns!

You don't have to be UK alumni to participate - all are welcome!

What to Expect: Delicious food, family-friendly activities, live entertainment, giveaways, and plenty of chances to celebrate with fellow Wildcats, Cheerleaders, and Pep Band! 

Tailgate guests will park in general game day parking and walk over to Tobacco Lawn.

Come early, wear your blue, and enjoy the perfect pre-game celebration before cheering on the Cats!

Wildcat Watch Party

The historic Alumni Gym, located adjacent to the Gatton Student Center on Avenue of Champions, is a state-of-the-art fitness center designed to provide choices and opportunities for healthy living. The appealing‚ open environment encourages participation and development of a healthy lifestyle. It is a great place to gather‚ make new friends‚ and take a positive step towards lifelong health and fitness habits. Families are invited to work out with their students (valid UK student ID required; guests must be at least 14 years old and show a photo ID). 

Arboretum

7 a.m. - 7 p.m., The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky (500 Alumni Drive)

The Arboretum is a 100-acre public garden located on the campus of the University of Kentucky in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky. Their mission is to showcase Kentucky landscapes and serve as a resource center for environmental and horticultural education, research, and conservation.

Art Museum

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of Family Weekend and step into a world of creativity at the University of Kentucky Art Museum. Located right on campus, this cultural treasure features a dynamic mix of contemporary works, classic masterpieces, and thought-provoking exhibitions.

Whether you're an art lover or just looking for a peaceful moment, the museum offers something for everyone. Explore diverse perspectives, spark great conversations with your student, and experience the beauty of campus in a whole new way.

Eckert's Orchard

Friday - Sunday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., 1396 Pinckard Pike, Versailles, KY

Enjoy a fun and festive outing at Eckert’s Orchard! This family-friendly destination offers apple and pumpkin picking, delicious treats from the farm store, and scenic views of the Kentucky countryside. It's the perfect way to experience fall together during Family Weekend.

Homecoming Events

Join us for UK Homecoming and celebrate Wildcat pride with your student! Enjoy a week of fun events, traditions, and campus spirit. Some events are free, while others require an additional ticket or purchase. The full schedule will be available soon at homecoming.uky.edu/schedule. We can’t wait to see you there!

Johnson Student Recreation Center

9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Johnson Student Recreation Center (430 Complex Drive)

Free for families with your student

Families are welcome to tour UK’s state-of-the-art recreation facility, which features a climbing wall, multi-purpose gymnasium, four-lane elevated jogging track, aerobics studios, racquetball courts, and more. Families are invited to work out with their students (valid UK student ID required; guests must be at least 14 years old and show a photo ID). 

Lancaster Aquatic Center

10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Lancaster Aquatic Center, next to the Johnson Student Recreation Center (416 Complex Drive)

Free for families with your student

Opened in 1989 and located adjacent to the Johnson Center‚ the Lancaster Aquatic Center offers indoor swimming to the UK community and eligible BCTC students. Families are invited to swim with their students (valid UK student ID required; guests must be at least 6 years old, and guest must complete our waiver). The aquatic center is a lap facility (18 lanes available), water is 80 degrees, 1 mtr diving board, 6’-15’ pool depth.

Lexington Farmers Market

Saturday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., Tandy Centennial Park & 5/3 Pavilion (251 W. Main Street)

Sunday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Southland Drive (near Winchell's Restaurant and Bar)

While you're in town for Family Weekend, take some time to explore Lexington beyond campus! We invite you to visit the Lexington Farmers Market, where you’ll find fresh produce, local goods, handmade crafts, and delicious treats from Kentucky vendors. It’s a great way to experience the local community and enjoy a relaxing morning with your family.
