University-wide Navigation

You!

One of the best resources for helping your Wildcat navigate their college experience is YOU. By getting involved with Parent and Family Engagement, you will have the opportunity to connect with other Wildcat families, support current students, and stay updated on important campus news, resources, and initiatives through our Cat Chat Family Community.

Ask for Assistance

If you have questions about UK, concerns about your student, or just want to consult on how to best support your Wildcat, Parent and Family Engagement staff are here to help!

Cat Chat Family Community

Parent and Family Engagement offers the Cat Chat Family Community, a one-stop shop for family communications and Family Weekend registration. If your Wildcat provided your email address on their admissions application, you will automatically be added to the Cat Chat Family Community after your incoming student confirms their attendance. If the university does not already have your email address, you may sign yourself up here. We define family very broadly and welcome all supportive adults in our students’ lives to be part of the Wildcat family!

Cat Chat Live

Cat Chat Live is a webinar series designed to help answer some of your questions about UK, particularly if you have a new Wildcat joining us. To see when the next Cat Chat Live will be held, visit our calendar in the Cat Chat Family Community. Register for the webinar topics that interest you most and mark your calendars to join us. If you have questions for the featured guests, post them using the Zoom Q&A feature and they will try to answer as many as they can during the allotted time. If you aren't able to join us for the live webinar, you can watch previously recorded webinars on our YouTube channel.

Conversation Calendar

Helping your student through their first years of college can be challenging. We’ve created a guide to help you understand what your first-year or second-year student is going through so you can ask the right questions at the right time.

Family Alcohol Handbook

Alcohol and drug use can have a significant negative impact on a college student’s life and on the campus community. Research has shown that parents and families can play an important role in influencing this behavior. Working with noted researcher Dr. Rob Turrisi from Penn State University, we have made this resource guide available to help you, as a parent or family member, understand alcohol and drugs on college campuses and have necessary conversations with your student.

Supporting Second-Year Students

At the University of Kentucky, we pride ourselves on putting our students first in everything we do. We recognize that your Wildcat had an unusual start to their UK journey in the middle of a global pandemic, and we are continually seeking ways to provide them holistic, comprehensive support both inside and outside the classroom. Knowing that it has been a while since their orientation experience, they may have emerging needs in their second year and are uncertain about the resources available to assist them. Supporting Students Who Are Parents

The Office of Parent and Family Engagement would like to provide students with dependent(s) quick access to campus and community resources and serve as a referral for helpful information.
